Coinbase announced it will be converting Sei (SEI) tokens to the new Sei EVM network from April 6-8, 2026. During this conversion period, users are advised to refrain from depositing or transferring SEI tokens. Following the conversion, Coinbase will no longer support deposits to bech32 (Cosmos) deposit addresses for SEI, as the token transitions to the Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible version. This technical upgrade represents Sei's evolution from its original Cosmos-based infrastructure to an EVM-compatible blockchain, allowing for better interoperability with Ethereum-based applications and smart contracts. The conversion process is expected to be completed within the three-day window, after which normal trading and transfers will resume.
